This dissertation focuses on the metal artifacts of the Kingdom of Jerusalem: their production, trade, and use, in comparison to those in the Islamic world and in Latin-Christian Europe. No comprehensive study has been carried out to date on the metal objects from the Kingdom of Jerusalem, which have only been the subject of brief presentations in excavation reports, journal articles, and books that focus on broader issues.

Metal artifacts are more diverse than any other category of find and display a wider range of shapes and functions. Therefore, their study offers a new avenue to broaden our understanding of the period, assessing prevailing concepts regarding cross-cultural influences and seeking to identify possible new ones.

This study relates to objects made from common metals and their alloys, incorporating tools, arms, armor, horse equipment, animal accessories, clothing accessories, jewelry, cosmetic implements, religious objects, food implements, building materials, weights, and scales. Artifacts found in controlled archaeological contexts are the main source of data for this study, although some objects that were found in churches or in private collections are also discussed.
