Therefore, their study offers a new avenue to broaden our understanding of the period, assessing prevailing concepts regarding cross-cultural influences and seeking to identify possible new ones.

This study relates to objects made from common metals and their alloys, incorporating tools, arms, armor, horse equipment, animal accessories, clothing accessories, jewelry, cosmetic implements, religious objects, food implements, building materials, weights, and scales. Artifacts found in controlled archaeological contexts are the main source of data for this study, although some objects that were found in churches or in private collections are also discussed.
