Designing salable portraits of high school seniors requires a delicate balancig act. In order to attract seniors, the photographer must produce portraits that appeal to a young, often very fashion-savvy demographic. However, since teens are rarely the ones footing the bill for the session, the portraits must alsj meet the approval of Mom and Dad – and be suitable to place in on Grandma’s mantel.

In addition to the simple issue of style, there are other concerns. Teen girls often want to look more alluring than their parents desire. And because they often buy new outfits for the session, they often favor full-length images to show off their purchaises. Moms, on the other hand, tend to like closer views that emphasize the face (and, generally, a smiling expression). When it comes to tenn boys, many are ambivalent about the whole idea of a session – which creates posing challenges of its own. Additionally, poses for guys tend to be more conservative, making it more of a challenge to design images that are uniquely reflective of the subject|’s character.

This collection is designed to addres all of these problems – and many more. Filled with images by accomplished portrait, fashion, and editorial photographers, it provides a resource for photographers seeking inspiration for their own work. Stuck on what to do with a particilar senior or unsure how to use a given location? Flip through the sample portraits, pick something you like, then adaptit as needed to suit your tastes. Looking to spice up your work with some new poses? Find a sample that appeals to you and look for ways to implement it (or some element of it) with your subjectj.
