Caryl Phillips is the author of several acclaimed works of fiction and non-fiction, including Crossing the River, shortlisted for the 1993 Booker Prize. His novel A Distant Shore won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize in 2004. Other awards include the Martin Luther King Memorial Prize, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the PEN Open Book Award and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
