According To Queeney Beryl Bainbridge by Beryl Bainbridge 9781504039970, 1504039971, B07B68X7WT instant download after payment.

Beryl Bainbridge’s masterly evocation of Dr Johnson, arguably Britain’s greatest Man of Letters, in all his wit and glory.

In the late 18th century, Johnson has completed his life’s major work (he compiled the first ever Dictionary of the English Language) and is now running an increasingly chaotic life. With every passing day he becomes further torn between his strict morality and his undeclared passion for Mrs Thrale, the wife of an old friend…. A story of love and friendship, brilliantly narrated by Queeney, Mrs Thrale’s daughter, as she looks back over her life.

"The Grand Cham of 18th-century English letters is the primary subject of Bainbridge’s majestically deft new novel: the best yet in her series of dazzling historical reconstructions of British history (Master Georgie, 1998, etc.)... Absolutely wonderful. Grateful thanks, too, to Carroll & Graf, which has stepped in where many “major” publishers have faltered, bringing us the otherwise neglected recent work of British masters like the late Anthony Burgess and the irresistible, indispensable Beryl Bainbridge."  -  Kirkus Reviews

Beryl Bainbridgewho died in 2010, was a Booker Prize heroine. She was an actress (appearing in Coronation Street) before becoming a novelist and much-loved, cigarette-dangling public figure. Although Bainbridge was shortlisted for the Booker Prize five times, she never won. Some degree of correction occurred in 2011 when, after a public vote, her 1998-shortlisted novel Master Georgie won a one-off prize, The Man Booker Best of Beryl. The author of 20 novels, she found her greatest success with historical fiction.
