8 reviewsTeaching through case study method is not new to Indian academics. Since the time of Gurukul education system, knowledge was imparted through story telling which was the simplest technique of using the case study method. In the documented history of the world, case study method of teaching was pioneered by Harvard Law School (1870) under the academic leadership of Christopher Columbus Langdell, the then newly appointed Dean of the leading law school. Harvard Business School was the first business school of the world to adopt case study method in 1920 with the initiative of the Dean of Harvard Business School, who was a law graduate from Harvard Law School. Later on, teaching with case method became popular in teaching law, medicine and management across the world (Garvin, 2003). A recent empirical research says that case study teaching method improves a student's performance and perception of learning gains even in the science and technology courses (Bonney, 2015). Design education is not an exception to this. We witnessed the same phenomenon in fashion education as well.
