If you are a parent to a cat, you know how much of a picky eater they turn into sometimes. One day will be totally fine with the food you serve them, and the other day they might be flipping the bowl. But as a parent, you always worry about providing them with a healthy and steady diet. Another worry that has always been there is that cats are sensitive to some foods. Unlike us humans, they need to be served a certain type of diet, a certain set of nutrition to keep them going. Some of these are proteins, carbohydrates, fat, minerals, vitamins, lactose, and water. In these nutritions, some divided categories go from best to least good for cats. For example, carbohydrates and lactose are not given that much weightage in healthy cat foods because carbohydrates are mostly preferred during cats’ pregnancy or nursing, and lactose can give your cat a bad stomach if it is not used to it. Now, coming to protein, you need to understand that cats require protein more than dogs or any other pet. From the calories they consume from their meals, about 30-35% of it needs to be from proteins. Proteins ensure the good growth of hair and nails, and most importantly, it is required for a good immune system.
Also, these nutrition sources are divided into plant and animal nutrition. Although vets prefer to feed the least vegetarian food to cats, there are times when you cannot help it. Some of the plant-based meals are prepared from vegetables like carrots, celery, spinach, etc. These also provide them a good amount of nutrients like minerals, carbs, high fibers, and vitamins. These nutrients are necessary for the health of your cat as they play different roles in that criteria. As in, high fiber is helpful in the digestive functioning of cats. Vitamin A is necessary for different health benefits like Vitamin A for good vision, reproductive system, skin, tooth, and bone growth; Vitamin K for blood clotting in case your cat gets hurt. Talking about carbs, it may not be seen as a necessary ingredient for cat food, but it does have its own benefits. It is necessary for the production of glucose, which means it can be seen as a source of energy. Fruits are not much recommended for cats, yet some fruits will keep your cat excited for mealtime. These fruits are bananas, blueberries, apples, etc., fruits that can keep cats cool, especially during summer. But You need to avoid any food items like onion, garlic, raisins, etc. These are harmful to cats. Even tuna, which cats find addictive, can be harmful to them. You need to be very careful with what you are serving your cat.
So, it is understandable that you cannot feed cats anything; obviously, their digestive structure is not like humans. And over that, their strict diet also needs to match their mood. It has to be delicious, so they do not have time to give you a hard time being a picky eater. You need to have an idea of what is good and what is bad for your little friend, or you will end up bringing them a lot of health troubles unknowingly.
