Description

Commentary on the Epistle to the Galatians is a work by German priest and theologian Martin Luther, first published in 1535. It is his most comprehensive work on justification by faith, which was formed in part by his interpretation of Galatians. Paul wrote this letter to the churches in Galatia, a region in modern-day Turkey. The primary purpose of the letter was to address a crisis in these churches, where certain Jewish-Christian teachers (often referred to as Judaizers) were insisting that Gentile converts to Christianity must adhere to Jewish law, including circumcision. Paul however, emphasizes that people are justified (made right with God) by faith in Jesus Christ and not by adhering to the works of the Law.

This book has 85,691 words, and was originally published in 1535. This translation by Theodore Graebner was first published in 1949.
