How many times could the combination of names "Jacob son of Joseph brother of Jesus" have occurred there? In the autumn of 2002, the discovery of an ossuary in Jerusalem with the inscription "Jacob son of Joseph brother of Jesus" (Yaakov Bar Yosef Ahui D Yeshu) was revealed. The author attempts to assess the statistical aspects of the issue of the probable number of people named Jacob, whose father was named Joseph, whose brother was named Jesus, and who could have been buried in similar ossuaries. The analysis assesses the size of the population of Jerusalem during the period from which the ossuary comes, the number of people who could have been buried in similar objects, and the probability of the occurrence of an identical configuration of names. The author also addresses the issue of the probability of deviations of the calculated parameters based on the actual number of residents.ISSN 1641-7224
