The attached Errata Sheet corrects data reported in OCR’s 2017–18 Civil Rights Data Collection Sexual Violence in K-12 Schools Issue Brief (Sexual Violence Issue Brief) released in October 2020. Below is an explanation of OCR’s data corrections process for the 2017-18 CRDC, and how the corrected data changed the information reported in the issue brief.
The attached Errata Sheet shows the incidents of rape or attempted rape, as well as sexual assault reported in the May 2021 updated public-use data file reflect lower numbers than those initially reported in the October 2020 public-use data file and the Sexual Violence in K-12 Issue Brief. Consequently, some of the rankings of states, as originally published in the brief, have changed, with some states now included in the rankings and others now excluded.
