The main novelty of this second edition concerns the final Chapter of the Answers and Solutions. Solutions which in the first edition were left to the reader have now been added, and—more importantly—a greater amount of details in the answers and additional guidance for arriving at the solutions of the problems has now been inserted, with clear suggestions on the necessary calculations, and precise and stimulating indications on the procedures. In some cases, two or three different ways for solving the problems have been proposed. In addition, the statements of various problems have been carefully rewritten and expanded, and the questions appearing partially incomplete or somewhat unclear in the first edition have been revised and improved.
Finally, the “gray” insertions in the text, providing a useful survey of the principal properties of the various mathematical objects, have been enriched, having always in mind the pedagogical scope of the book, along the lines illustrated in the preface of the first edition.
