Major Naomi MacCaffrey, Captain Zoey Bryant and a group of other officers from the Hot Tub Brain Trust have proposed a raid on the New Cancun Ranger Base to recover material needed for the defense of the colony. The initial proposal has grown into a bigger mission and Zoey Bryant will lead the ground force.

The survivors of the recon shuttle sot down 2 days before the invasion began have made it to the New Cancun Ranger Base only to find that all of the Rangers are gone and the aliens have occupied the settlement.

Delta Company and other personnel on the recovery mission head for Winter Haven on the transport the London where they pick up additional personnel and wait for the mission window to open. Among the mission personnel are a group of civilian volunteers including several parents of the missing girls who were on the Cairo with Commander Cassidy and Gunnery Sergeant Pickford when the transport was shot down.

Rick Cassidy’s sister Lieutenant Bridget O’Brien and 2,000 other Rangers are on the colony transport ship Marco Polo headed for the New Hope Colony. Some of Bridget’s friends have been brought in on the secret of Rick and Molly’s true identities. The cargo supply ship Asia with Cassidy’s daughter Ciara onboard are getting closer to arrival at the colony.

The Rangers on the mission hope to get in and out of the Ranger Base and their other targets during the night without being noticed by the aliens. They plan to hide in the mountains to the west during the daylight hours and go back for more if they can. Finding survivors of the earlier battles is a welcome surprise.

The Rangers run into trouble at the New Cancun hospital where they are spotted before they can get away. A battle ensues and the Rangers are nearly overwhelmed by the alien giants. The Rift are upset that the humans would dare to take back material that the aliens had taken in battle.

The Rift have located the mountain valley where the Cairo went down and plan to pay them a visit. Pickford and Cassidy must step up the training of the students and teachers from the New Hope Academy before the aliens decide to take the Cairo and kill them all.
