A sharp rap on the door jolted Jason Todd awake, abruptly ending the dreamlike state he was

enjoying after visiting a Lucid Dream the night before. Marred, vague, fading memories of the Lucid

Dream made returning to reality difficult. Eyes cracking open, he pulled his ragged sheet up to his

chin and drifted back to sleep. He’d been walking barefoot on warm sand in a cool evening breeze

when the knock jolted him awake. Maybe if he fell back asleep quickly enough, he could return to

enjoy the tranquility he found only in dreams.

But the pounding on the door continued—louder, like someone was banging a metal rod against his

tin can door.

“Can you just fuck off, for God’s sake?” he shouted from under the sheet though he knew the

sound wouldn’t carry through the thick metal walls of the shipping container.

The noise only intensified as the intruder became more insistent, as if someone would die if Jason

didn’t open the door.

Well, everyone was dying anyway, and nothing could be done about it. Couldn’t they just let him

enjoy a full night’s sleep for once?
