Another edition, revised and slightly enlarged, was published at the same Press in 1908. Finding that the second edition was nearly exhausted, I decided not to revise and republish the old work but to prepare a new Grammar. Over 20 years of further residence and work in India ought, I felt, to enable me 1 produce a better book. Such an attempt has been made. A comparison of the two Grammars will make mar-ifest the fact that there are great differences in the two books, and it is hoped that these changes are for the better in 16: way of clearness and simplicity.
