The House of the Surgeon represents the first major publication of an important series of excavations undertaken by the Anglo-American Project in Pompeii (1994-2006) at the ancient city of Pompeii in a city block known as Insula VI 1. This is one of the largest, most comprehensive, and most important sub-surface, pre-79 AD excavations ever to have been undertaken at Pompeii. About the Author: Michael Anderson is Associate Professor of Classics and Classical Archaeology at San Francisco State University. He was the final Field Director of the Anglo-American Project responsible for the Casa del Chirurgo and worked on the excavations from 1996 until 2006. He is now directing a new research project in Pompeii (the Via Consolare Project).
About the Author: Damian Robinson is the Director of the Oxford Centre for Maritime Archaeology. He was Co-Director of the Anglo-American Project from 1994-2006 and was responsible for the study of standing architectural remains throughout the Casa del Chirurgo (and all of Insula VI 1) excavations.
