About the Author

Mark P. Jensen, Ph.D., isa Professor and Vice Chair for Research at the Department of RehabilitationMedicine, University of Washington, in Seattle, Washington, USA.  Hehas been studying chronic pain and helping individuals better manage chronicpain for over 30 years.  He has been funded by the National Institutes ofHealth and other funding agencies to study the efficacy and mechanisms ofvarious treatments for chronic pain, including hypnosis.  He has publishedextensively (six books and over 500 articles and book chapters) on the topicsof pain assessment and treatment.  He has has receivednumerous awards for his writing and scientific contributions including the 2004Roy M. Dorcus award for Best Clinical Paper from the Society of Clinical andExperimental Hypnosis, the 2009 Clark L. Hull award for Scientific Excellencein Writing from the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and the 2012American Psychological Association Division 30 Award for DistinguishedContributions to Scientific Hypnosis.   His book on the use of hypnosis for chronic painmanagement (Hypnosis for Chronic Pain:Therapist Guide, publishedby Oxford University Press) won the 2011 Society of Clinical andExperimental Hypnosis Arthur Shapiro Award for Best Book on Hypnosis.  Heis also apopular international speaker and workshop facilitator.
