This book contains the complete and detailed solutions to all the problems in the second edition of my Basic Real Analysis textbook, henceforth referred to as BRA. For the convenience of the instructors, I have included the statements of the problems as they appear in BRA. In preparing this new manual, I found and corrected many typos and errors in the earlier version. There may still remain undetected errors and I would be grateful to the readers for sending me ([email protected]) a list of the typos/errors they find as well as suggestions for improvements.
Clearly, the problems and their solutions are based on the topics covered in BRA and frequent references are made to the results in that textbook. Therefore, the reader of this manual should have a copy of BRA handy for such references. Nevertheless, the book can also be used in conjunction with any other standard real analysis textbook that treats the same topics in a similar way.
It is my hope that potential instructors using the textbook will find this manual helpful as they decide, based on the level of their students, which problems are the most reasonable for homework assignments. They may also want to include additional hints based on the solutions if the latter seem technically involved.
It is a great pleasure to thank Tom Grasso and Mitch Moulton of Birkhäuser for their help and assistance during the preparation of the manuscript.
