In May 2017, I was hosting the second Prairie Comics Festival in
Winnipeg, MB. As was my habit, I took some cash aside and went
around to buy something from each of the creators. It was a delightful
surprise to find full length versions of both Ryan & Laura Harby’s King
of Pies ( from their Honey Dill webseries) and Jamie Isfeld’s Street Style
Samurai. Segments of both of these stories had been featured in a short
promotional zine that I had produced to advertise the festival earlier in
the year and I was eager to read the full collections!
Neither disappointed me and I was thrilled with the zany energy of the
Honey Dill strips, and the sly, fashionable action of Street Style Samurai.
What was even cooler is that they were the exact same size which is
when it hit me...
Why not promote three amazing Winnipeg cartoonists at once and do
a combined book? These two collections do a great job of introducing
readers to two new comics, both bound together only by their quality
and the location of their creators.
So sit back and enjoy these comics!
