Liturgical Elements for Reformed Worship is a series of four liturgical resources: three consisting of liturgical elements for Years A, B, and C, and a fourth, the first such resource to support the implementation of Year D: A Quadrennial Supplement to the Revised Common Lectionary (Cascade Books). Each volume consists of a Call to Worship, Opening Prayer, Call to Confession, Prayer of Confession, and Words of Assurance, with Years A-C including additional elements (A Prayer in Preparation for Worship, The Offering, Prayer of Dedication, and a Blessing) suitable for Presbyterian, Reformed, and other Protestant worship. Each of these practical volumes is intended for use by pastors, liturgists, and other planners and leaders of worship.

Review

Crafted with theological rigor, literary grace, and pastoral sensitivity, this volume presents a treasury of new resources for Reformed worship. These words are deeply rooted in the word of God, attentive to the shape of the liturgy, and attuned to the rhythms of the Christian year. Slemmons has done a good service for the church! --David Gambrell, Associate for Worship, Presbyterian Church (USA)

Demonstrating the heart of a pastor and the discipline of a scholar, Slemmons does more than offer a new collection of liturgical resources. In Lightning from the East, he brings fresh life to the familiar texts of the lectionary by inviting us into a conversation with the Word--a conversation that is best experienced within the context of the worship of God. This book is a rich resource for every pastor and worship leader. --Richard J. Shaffer Jr., Associate Dean and Assistant Professor of Ministry, University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Iowa
