Multiculturalism: A Shalom Motif for the Christian Community is an attempt to engage the Christian community on the ongoing discussion of cultural diversity and its implications for the church and the entire Christian community of the twenty-first century. Written for Christian schools and churches, this book confronts the fact that, for the Christian church in North America to remain vibrant and relevant in the twenty-first century, it must engage with the idea of multiculturalism and all other forms of diversity that now characterize the contemporary society. While the nature of this engagement will vary from case to case, cultural diversity must become a growing face of the church in America. This book uses a combination of philosophy, educational theories, and biblical theology to provide Christian educators and churches with a critical understanding of multiculturalism, as well as practical steps for engaging this issue within the Christian community.

Review

In building on a shalom motif, this rich and thought-provoking book takes us to the deep motive of God in first creating humanity as well as to God's deepest passion for our wholeness. This work will provide insight and understanding, and it brings cohesiveness to many concepts that may seem disconnected. Mostly, it will make you sigh with relief that it is because of our diversity that we are able to go way beyond tolerance and find wholeness. --Kevin W. Mannoia, Free Methodist Church

In today's world in which people easily cross geographical boundaries, it behooves us to develop a Christian perspective that enables us to effectively negotiate cultural and worldview differences. . . . How we relate cross-culturally can make or break us. DomNwachukwu and Lee argue for cross-cultural relationships built on personal and cultural awareness leading to genuine 'multicultural community' with Christ at the center. This is a thought-provoking call to work at producing and participating in such communities. --Charles H. Kraft, Fuller Theological Seminary

Being a part of the global village, we are required to live in harmony with all of the people whom God created. This book is a must-read for those who are concerned with building a shalom community in this world! --Richard Shin, Glory Church of Jesus Christ
