The tires of my beat-up sedan crunched over the gravel driveway as I pulled up to the Sunny Honey B&B, its stately Victorian facade bathed in the golden light of late afternoon. I sat there for a moment, staring up at the peaked gables and ornate trim work that adorned the old house. It looked just as I remembered it, a vision plucked straight from the pages of a fairytale book.

With a deep breath, I stepped out of the car. The early autumn air was crisp but carried a lingering scent of honey and wildflowers. I grabbed my duffle bag from the back seat and made my way up the front steps. My heart pounded as I raised my hand to ring the bell. I hadn't seen my grandmother Iris in over a year, not since that disastrous Thanksgiving when I first brought Chase home to meet her.

The heavy oak door swung open and there stood Grandma, as elegant and vibrant as ever. Her steel gray hair was swept up in its signature bun and her eyes, the same deep green as mine, crinkled at the corners as she broke into a wide smile.
