I was in grade school in Cedar Rapids, Iowa when the murder described in this book occurred. My father was among the original group called in as possible jury members. He was among those not chosen, but he followed the events in the newspaper, and I remember hearing my parents talk about it. The book also included photographs that appeared in the Cedar Rapids Gazette. When a discussion about this murder and trial occurred on a Facebook discussion board to which I belong, I remembered it almost immediately. I could hardly wait until the book arrived and when it did, I could not put it down. And I remembered many of the people mentioned in the book. Jim Smith was the Cedar Rapids sheriff for years. I recognized the names of the attorneys involved in the trial. After my high school graduation in 1961, I went to work as a secretary for a Cedar Rapids attorney. By that time, the attorneys involved in this case had settled into private practice and would stop by the office from time to time. Thank you for revitalizing my childhood memory.
