a need to climb a short wall or descend by rope into a canyon, but
otherwise, the team made it to the northern end of the mountains
well before dark.
However, while the travel had been uneventful… no wild animals
or Japanese… it had not been a happy hike. No one had been
thrilled by the idea of leaving Murdock behind all by himself to likely
die alone. Whether he was well-liked or not, he was a fellow soldier
and a member of the team. It weighed heavily on everyone,
especially their commanding officer.
