On his return to Europe he was captured and held to ransom in Austria, and would eventually have to reconquer the lands his younger brother John had lost in his attempt to seize power.

Kate Norgate (1853-1935) was a British historian, one of the first women to achieve academic success in this field. Best known for her series of works on England under the reign of the Angevin kings, she coined the term “Angevin Empire” to describe their domains.
