Willie G. Davidson likes to say that he was born with gasoline in his veins and a crayon in each hand. A designer at heart, Davidson combined his passions for art and motorcycles to extend a multi-generational unbroken thread from Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company's birth in a wooden shed in the early twentieth century to today. I started my career as a motorcycle designer and clay modeler at Harley-Davidson in 1974. My boss then was Willie G. Davidson. Little did I know that this was to be the beginning of an adventure and journey that would endure over thirty years of design partnership, encompassing the lows and highs of America’s greatest motorcycle company.

We both take great pride in the Motor Company’s success story and the significance of our professional relationship for more than three decades. To put it simply, we are two guys who love all things Harley-Davidson—riding motorcycles and the process of designing them. I have always had the utmost respect for Willie G’s sensitivity as a designer. His skills as a draftsman and sketch artist have provided him with the most important tools a designer can have. The natural capacities to communicate, create, and visualize conceptual ideas will forever be the keystone of effective, emotional design.
