Scottish Tartans In Full Color James Grant Illustrations J Charles Thompson Text by James Grant (illustrations), J. Charles Thompson (text) 9780486155579, 9780486270463, 0486155579, 0486270467 instant download after payment.

The tartans of 72 Highland clans are presented in full-page, full-color, large-format illustrations, from James Grant's 'Tartans of the Clans and Septs of Scotland' (1886), with a new introduction to tartans (and some background on Grant) by J. Charles Thompson, fellow of the Scottish Tartan Society and a noted authority in the field. A must for costume, textile, and fashion designers and historians, and an eye-filling pleasure for all.

Grant's work became the basis of W. & A. K. Johnstons' long-running series of 'The Scottish Clans and Their Tartans' volumes, the first in 1906 (revised by Henry Whyte). This Grant/Thompson book from Dover does not include Grant's clan-history summaries, just the tartan illustrations, but in much larger and clearer format that in the Johnston books. Note: There are 80 "meaningful" pages; the total page length is 161, counting blank pages between images, and the cover.
