The Spectacular Science for Smart Kids is a good book if you're looking to do some easy science experiments at home utilizing ordinary household materials. The book is chock full of experiments - there's at least 100 different activities - and the activities are broken down into 1-3 page with introduction, materials needed, procedure, and explanation of what is happening. Many of the experiments utilize items most people have at home, such as candy, cans, vinegar, freezer bags, clay, food coloring and the like.

There are a couple of experiments that include less common items like ammonia, borax, 90% alcohol, microscopes, and laundry bluing, but there's really no experiment that requires hard to find or specialty items. Even the more difficult items to find such as iron fillings for a magnetic slime and the Mylar tinsel can be found online.
