You are unlikely to find this magazine in libraries or archives because it was not considered a proper science. The Astrologer's Magazine was the first periodical devoted only to astrological science. This volume collects several of the first issues. It begins with an article charting the stars of Prince Edward VIII, who was born on June 23, 1894. The young Prince, later King and then Duke of Windsor, was the great-grandson of still-reigning Queen Victoria. History buffs will love the prognostications for the Prince, which include the prediction that "the chief planets of the fixed signs show little or no control over the impulses, which are strong, due to Mars being in square to the Sun." Call it the Sun - or Wallis Simpson - but on this point the stars were correct: Edward abdicated the throne because of his uncontrollable love for the American divorcee. An essay by Alan Leo presents case studies of failed marriages. Leo was the founder of modern astrology, the founder of The Astrologer's Magazine, Vol. 5, and a great proselytizer for the art and science of the heavens. Leo is more responsible for the 20th Century's astrological revival than any other practitioner. This issue also marked the debut of "Alan's Page," which was devoted to Leo's wisdom. One of Leo's goals was to reintroduce astrology to the masses. This is illustrated by a fascinating piece about palmistry which explains the practice to both astrologers and the public.
