This work embodies a number of meticulously detailed historical accounts (e.g., the studies of Galileo; Newton, Lagrange, Maxwell, Einstein, Bohr and Heisenberg; Popper; Malthus, Darwin, Dobzhansky and Margulis). This critique aims at uncovering the internal, necessary relation of a class in history, the bourgeoisie, to its society and historically specific knowledge of nature, modern science, and thus relativizes the latter - its faux claims to universality notwithstanding -as just one socially hegemonic form of knowledge in the millennia long history of humanity. More specifically, the theoretical critique discloses that immanent and necessary relation of science to the bourgeoisie.. Not only are significant elements of the internal conceptual structure of science inseparable from the bourgeois processes of accumulation - and in complexly mediated fashion from the various historical summits of bourgeois theory, not only is the constitution of science as theory indissolubly linked to production of the socio-historical world we call capitalism, science itself cannot be practiced absent that world. The historical studies demonstrate the two crucial mediations in connecting the modern science of nature to the expansion of the productive forces of society are quantification of motion (which, exhibiting the formal identity of terrestrial and celestial bodies, at once makes a universal mechanics possible and practical) and the calculus in its various forms and formulations. Finally, during the course of the presentation, the circle is completed as the mutual mediation of the modern science of nature and capitalist production is exhibited in the systematic, sustained input of science to production; for it is this ingression which makes capitalist development on its foundations, i.e., its most efficacious form (known as real domination), possible.
