Nick Lansing and Susy Branch form an alliance of convenience. They have the right connections but always short of money. They decide to spend a year or so sponging off their wealthy friends, honeymooning in their mansions and villas. And the marriage can always be dissolved if one of them meets someone who can advance them socially.

Edith Wharton, an American novelist and short story writer, most famous for her prize winning The Age of Innocence novel (ISBN: 9781909438828). Wharton was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for literature. She was also a garden designer, interior designer, and spoke fluent French. Wharton was one of the few foreigners in France allowed to travel to the front lines during the First World War. Throughout the war she worked tirelessly in charitable efforts for refugees and, in 1916 was named a Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in recognition of her commitment to the displaced. Wharton produced a wealth of short stories and is particularly well regarded for her ghost stories.
