Lan Wright, the pseudonym of Lionel Percy Wright, was born on July 8, 1923 in Watford, Hertfordshire. He was married, lived in Watford, and was employed by British Railways. Wright was known by all to be a “keen” amateur cricket player.

During the period 1952 to 1963, Wright was a regular contributor to various British SF magazines, including New Worlds and Science Fantasy. Increased responsibilities in the British manufacturing industry curtailed his writing career.

Wright began publishing sf with “Operation Exodus” for New Worlds in January 1952 His ‘Johnny Dawson’ series in New Worlds, about intrigues between Earth and the planet Luther—beginning with “Fair Exchange” (New Worlds, January 1955)—were partly assembled in Assignment Luther. The further series episodes “Joker’s Trick” (New Worlds, July 1959 ) and “The Jarnos Affair” (New Worlds, April 1960) remain uncollected. His final magazine appearance was the novella “A Task for Calvi” (Science Fiction Adventures UK, May 1963).

Wright had earlier begun publishing magazine-published novels beginning with Who Speaks of Conquest?and ending with The Pictures of Pavanne; about dysfunctional human who is obsessed by a mysterious work of art on a distant planet that revolves around a double sun.

Lionel Percy Wright died on October 1, 2010 in Colney Heath, near St Albans, Hertfordshire.
