The Moderately Tortured Artist Your Permission Slip To Start Making Epic Wholehearted Music 1st Edition Smith by Smith, Kimberley 9780646959993, 0646959999 instant download after payment.

We musicians are known for being "tortured artists" toiling with life's big existential questions and our complex emotions.
What many people don't see, understand or joke about are the crippling fears, the self doubt being shouted through a megaphone, or the effects of competition, rejection and criticism.
After seeing all of this first hand in my singing studio, as a performer and via my musical friends, I (Kimberley, the author) decided that this stuff needed to be dragged out of the closet, talked about and injected with a little humour (because who wants to read about fear without some light entertainment right?).
The Moderately Tortured Artist is a journey through the shadows and the bright lights of being a performer, a handbook for musicians who know they're holding themselves back from letting loose, being 100% in and creating epic, authentic music.
Music (when done well) is a beautiful, structured mess. It asks the artist to be open, raw, vulnerable and whole-heartedly ALL IN.
If you want to move past your fear, perfectionism and low self belief to find the courage to embrace opportunities, pump up your resilience and have more joy coursing through your veins - you're in the right place.
WARNING: This book isn't for everyone, so hopefully these guidelines will help you make an educated decision about whether or not it's your cup of tea.
  • This is not a guide on how to practice your technique to master your craft. This is all about the other side of the coin - our personality, mindset and emotions. It tackles stage fright, criticism, passion, collaboration, bravery and much more but is not a roadmap to playing your instrument perfectly or making you famous.
  • There are a few swear words in this book, so if that offends you perhaps don't get a copy (or have a friend cross them out for you before you go to read it).
  • I am not a psychologist or a psychiatrist. This book doesn't dive into depression, anxiety or addiction because I don't feel qualified enough to speak about those topics. I have however had years of experience with musicians and their negative inner voice, regret, shame, embarrassment and self doubt.

I am sharing their stories and mine to help others feel less alone, understand what's happening and move past what's keeping them from playing bigger.
So, if you'd like to dive down this rabbit hole with me and want to reignite that fire in your belly, connect more deeply with yourself and your audience and create damn fine, meaningful music - let's do this.
