The goal of George V. Wigram’s Analytical Greek Lexicon of the New Testament, originally published by Samuel Bagster & Sons in 1852, was to aid the reader in acquiring a knowledge of the Greek New Testament. The aim of The New Analytical Greek Lexicon clearly remains the same. While the original edition ably served thousands of readers for over a century, this newly revised edition provides numerous corrections and improvements that greatly enhance its usefulness,
The introductory tables of paradigms and explanatory grammatical remarks have been edited and revised with a view toward making them more accessible and more useful to rhe contemporary reader. One improvement was the elimination of forms not found in the Greek New Testament, such as the dual form of nouns, adjectives, pronouns, etc. Since these forms are not encountered in the New Testament and are seldom taught in New Testament Greek courses, it was clearly better not to include them.
In addition to including over 500 Greek forms not found in the original work, The New Analytical Greek Lexicon offers a new format featuring eleven distinct elements designed to afford immediate access to a wide range of important data. Please refer to the Table of Features which follows for an illustration and explanation of the elements of the new format.
While every attempt has been made to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the entries, the human factor dictates that perfection is an impossibility. Any corrections and suggestions for improving future editions will be appreciated.
