This Encyclopedia builds on the work that brought together Alberto Bitonti and me to develop and edit the book Lobbying in Europe: Public Affairs and the Lobbying Industry in 28 EU Countries which was published by Palgrave in 2017. That book was conceived 2 years earlier in 2015 and was the result of an Anglo-Italian collaboration which has been both creative, developing, and stimulating. It was also one of the first comprehensive works on how lobbying and public affairs worked in Europe, and more importantly what made it tick and operate. The book also came out just after the Brexit Referendum in June 2016 which resulted in the UK leaving the EU at the end of January 2020 which paralleled the rise of much populism and change across the world. The work emerged as the leading academic guide to lobbying and influence across the EU.
