This is a well written little about about Schopenhauer's philosophy, the implications it has for living in the world today, and his legacy on other thinkers, particularly Wittgenstein. However, I would not buy this book as an introduction to Schopenhauer's philosophy. The author sets aside a number of pages for criticizing Schopenhauer and his forebears, namely Kant and Berkeley. This is fine for an academic work on the philosopher. But the detail the author goes into, in addition to the criticism, assumes at least some prior knowledge of S's ideas not appropriate for an introductory-level text. As an introduction, like many, I would recommend starting with Magee's.
