This Mournable Body A Novel Nervous Conditions 3 Tsitsi Dangarembga by Tsitsi Dangarembga 9781555978129, 1555978126 instant download after payment.

Tsitsi Dangarembga’s searing novel about the obstacles faced by the women of Zimbabwe asks one question: where do lives go when all hope has departed?

This Mournable Body continues the story of Tambudzai, the protagonist of Tsitsi Dangarembga’s acclaimed first novel, Nervous Conditions, examining how the hope & potential of a young girl & a fledgling nation can sour over time & become a bitter & floundering struggle for survival.

After leaving a dead-end job, Tambudzai finds herself living in a run-down youth hostel in downtown Harare. At every turn, she is faced with a fresh humiliation. As a last resort, she takes an ecotourism job that takes her back to her parents’ impoverished homestead. A homecoming that culminates in an act of betrayal that reveals just how toxic the combination of colonialism & capitalism can be.

Here we meet Tambudzai, living in a youth hostel in downtown Harare after leaving a stagnant job. Proud, & yearning for success, Tambu attempts to make a new life for herself – but at every turn, she is faced with a fresh humiliation, until the contrast between the future she imagined & her daily reality ultimately drives her to a breaking point.

In this tense & psychologically charged novel, Tsitsi Dangarembga channels the hope & potential of one young girl & a fledgling nation to lead us on a journey to discover where lives go after hope has departed.

Tsitsi Dangarembga is the author of three novels: Nervous Conditions, winner of the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize; This Mournable Body, shortlisted for the Booker Prize & The Book of Not. She won the PEN Pinter Prize in 2021 & the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. Dangarembga is also a filmmaker, playwright, & the director of the Institute of Creative Arts for Progress in Africa Trust. She lives in Harare, Zimbabwe.
