Uncle Toms Story Of His Life Josiah Henson by Josiah Henson 9781594625664, 1594625662 instant download after payment.

Josiah Henson was born on a farm near Port Tobacco, Maryland. When he was a boy, his father was punished for standing up to a slave owner, for which he received one hundred lashes. In addition, his right ear was nailed to the whipping post and then cut off. "Uncle Tom," with a beautiful lack of anything approaching to conceit or selfconsciousness, shows himself to have been through life a true hero. The trials and sufferings of his lot as a slave, severe as they were, were borne by a brave and cheerful heart, which in the darkest hour did not yield to despair, and the painfulness of reading some portions of the account is alleviated by the recollection that the accursed institution of slavery has been got rid of in America. Every one who I begins to read it will be sure to read it to the end. Josiah Henson (1789 – 1883) was an author, abolitionist, and minister, who was born into slavery, in Port Tobacco, Maryland. He escaped to Upper Canada (now Ontario) in 1830, and founded a settlement and laborer's school for other fugitive slaves at Dawn, near Dresden, British Canada. He detailed his life experiences as as slave and abolitionist in his 1876 book "Uncle Tom's Story of His Life."
