The term “RIP” is short hand for Raster Image Processor. What a RIP does is allows you to make fine-tuned adjustments to the overall visual look of an image for the purposes of printing. This includes adjusting color output brightness, contrast, the intensity of a given color channel to bring out the vibrancy of a specific color or to mute or reduce the output of another and adjust the layout of the image on the page or platen, allowing you to control the exact placement of the image.
